Blue Cross Blue Shield
Giving customers the most for their health care dollar — that is what we're all about. For almost seven decades, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama has successfully contracted with health care providers to reduce costs, improve quality and provide the best value to our customers.
As a national leader in managed care, we introduced our first physician Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), the Preferred Medical Doctor (PMD) network, in 1984. Today, Blue Cross Preferred Care has grown to become the largest network in Alabama and one of the largest preferred provider networks in the country.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama administers health and dental programs for employers throughout the state of Alabama. The company provides coverage for more than 29,000 companies including most of the state's largest companies. Blue Cross also provides coverage to companies with as few as two employees. Probably the biggest indication of Blue Cross's commitment to "customer first" is the fact that we've retained more than 98 percent of our customers during the past 10 years.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama processes millions of Medicare claims each year and administers both Medicare Part A and Part B programs for Alabama.
